Excited reaction to science project demonstration
U.S. President Barack Obama reacts as Joey Hudy of Phoenix, Arizona, launches a marshmallow from his Extreme Marshmallow Cannon in the State Dining Room of the White House during the second White House Science Fair in Washington February 7, 2012. The fair celebrates the achievements of student winners of a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions from across the country. In 11th grade my study of the Hamadryas baboon won the behavioral division of the state science fair. I introduced toys into their African environment at the zoo and charted the effects in the “big love” baboon society. (Male leader controls up to 10 females and their young.) I was thrilled today to see the White House Science Fair and to know how exciting it must be for those kids, especially when the President shoots your Extreme Marshmallow Cannon. (Congrats to 14-year-old Joey Hudy.) More, I love that the president said we should celebrate our young scientists in the same way we celebrate our best young athletes and performers. Take that Kim Kardashian!
